A Series to explain this subject:

Once Saved Always Saved?

Todays message is one of a series to explain HOW a person CAN lose your Spiritual Birth. I have also included the Jewish text, so you will see that there are many ways of saying the same thing. I will present the scripture, then the message...

John 17

Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) New International Version (NIV)
1 After Yeshua had said these things, he looked up toward heaven and said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that the Son may glorify you -- 1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
2 just as you gave him authority over all mankind, so that he might give eternal life to all those whom you have given him. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.
3 And eternal life is this: to know you, the one true God, and him whom you sent, Yeshua the Messiah. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
4 "I glorified you on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
5 Now, Father, glorify me alongside yourself. Give me the same glory I had with you before the world existed. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
6 "I made your name known to the people you gave me out of the world. They were yours, you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 6 "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.
7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.
8 because the words you gave me I have given to them, and they have received them. They have really come to know that I came from you, and they have come to trust that you sent me. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
9 "I am praying for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given to me, because they are yours. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.
10 Indeed, all I have is yours, and all you have is mine, and in them I have been glorified. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
11 Now I am no longer in the world. They are in the world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, guard them by the power of your name, which you have given to me, so that they may be one, just as we are. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one.
12 When I was with them, I guarded them by the power of your name, which you have given to me; yes, I kept watch over them; and not one of them was destroyed (except the one meant for destruction, so that the Tanakh might be fulfilled). 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
13 But now, I am coming to you; and I say these things while I am still in the world so that they may have my joy made complete in themselves. 13 "I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
14 "I have given them your word, and the world hated them, because they do not belong to the world -- just as I myself do not belong to the world. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
15 I don't ask you to take them out of the world, but to protect them from the Evil One. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
16 They do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
17 Set them apart for holiness by means of the truth -- your word is truth. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
18 Just as you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
19 On their behalf I am setting myself apart for holiness, so that they too may be set apart for holiness by means of the truth. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
20 "I pray not only for these, but also for those who will trust in me because of their word, 20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
21 that they may all be one. Just as you, Father, are united with me and I with you, I pray that they may be united with us, so that the world may believe that you sent me. 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
22 The glory which you have given to me, I have given to them; so that they may be one, just as we are one -- 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:
23 I united with them and you with me, so that they may be completely one, and the world thus realize that you sent me, and that you have loved them just as you have loved me. 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am; so that they may see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world. 24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
25 Righteous Father, the world has not known you, but I have known you, and these people have known that you sent me. 25 "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
26 I made your name known to them, and I will continue to make it known; so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I myself may be united with them." 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."

Verse 12 states ONE of the twelve was LOST. I say this because you can NOT lose something, unless it was once yours. EXAMPLE: I can not lose a book, unless I HAD the book first. I can not lose a dime, unless I first HAD the dime, I can not lose a job, unless I first HAD a job...

I truly hope this has made it a bit clearer about certain scriptures. We can NOT take ONE verse from context, and put something as important as YOUR SALVATION rest on it. And the same holds true for me to explain with more than ONE verse. For this reason, I have made this a series, to show MORE than one verse. It is also whay I have include 26 verses here, and will include all of the others in the following messages. ~Pastor Mark
